Individuals with a type 9 personailty are known to be natural peacemakers or moderators and can be helpful in settling disputes or arguments.

Understanding a person's personality traits can be helpful for many reasons and in many different arenas, including personal and professional. While it is true that every person is different, many similar characteristics can be seen among multiple personality types. The type 9 personality, for example, is known to define someone who is an effective moderator, peacemaker, and someone who is likely to be very spiritual and helpful to others.

Type 9 Personalities are Peaceful, Natural, and Joyful

According to the Enneagram Institute, type 9 personalities are known to be peaceful individuals who seek to help others and bring joy to those around them. These people are typically very laid-back in demeanor and do not seem to allow outside influences to cause them a great deal of stress or discomfort. Type 9s are also humble in nature and are very unlikely to cause conflict or arguments when in relationships. At times, however, type 9s have the tendency to become avoidant of conflict.

Type 9 Personalities are Patient and Persistent

In addition to being peaceful in nature, type 9s are also seen as very patient with students or those whom they are teaching while maintaining a level of persistence in the process. These individuals will hear the viewpoints of all parties involved in a dispute and work with the group to find a peaceful, mutually-beneficial agreement. Type 9s seek to find happiness among all individuals and encourage the acceptance of simple pleasures in the process.

Type 9 Personalities Can Become Lazy or Overly-Avoidant

While peace and patience are two of the positive qualities of a Type 9 individual, they can also fall into bad habits such as laziness and becoming overly-avoidant. At times, this tendency to become disconnected with his or her surroundings can cause more conflict, which Type 9s hope to avoid in the first place. When in an unhealthy extreme, Type 9s can become extremely sheltered and have the world close its walls around him or her out of fear or an intense need to be safe.

Type 9 Personalities May Showcase Selective Memory

In further efforts to not dwell on negativity or harmful past events, type 9 personalities may also showcase a highly-selective memory while choosing to "block out" similar past events. This may come across to others as being naive or even ignorant when done in extreme cases. Type 9s can seem to forgive and forget more easily than other personality types, often to a fault.

The Type 9 personality trait describes an individual who is good-natured and always looking to help others with problems. However, these individuals are also very relaxed and laid-back and can come across in a negative light, especially in the professional arena. Famous type 9 personality individuals include President Bill Clinton, actor James Stewart, and the Dalai Lama. The Type 9 Personality individual is also very similar to that of the Type 8 trait.
