Tseng wins the fifth major championship of her career, becoming the youngest athlete in the history of professional golf to accomplish the feat.

Yani Tseng walked into the 2011 RICOH Women's British Open with a goal of not only defending her 2010 title, but to also establish herself into professional golf history. On Sunday, the 22-year old accomplished both in impressive fashion. In doing so, Tseng has already cemented herself into the realm of the LPGA's all-time greats... all before the age of 30.

Tseng Makes History in Scotland

During a week when multiple LPGA stars played outstanding golf on an oft-difficult Carnoustie golf course in Scotland, defending RICOH Women's British Open Champion Yani Tseng came out on top once again. In doing so, Tseng became the youngest professional golfer in the history of the game to capture five major victories, male or female.

"It feels really good," said Tseng in her televised trophy presentation. "It's my honor to win the British Open again." Tseng shot a 3-under 69 on Sunday's final round to post a tournament total of 16-under par 272, four strokes better than her closest rival Brittany Lang, who posted a 276. Germany's Caroline Masson, who lead the tournament as of Saturday evening, imploded on Sunday by recording a final round 78 before ultimately settling for a tie of fifth place.

Continued Success on the Horizon

Tseng has shown absolutely no signs of slowing down on her torrid pace on the LPGA TOUR. If this past weekend has anything to show for Tseng's continued potential, there is no telling what final major championship total will result by the end of her career.

"It's so great making history on this golf course, and I feel wonderful right now," said Tseng, who is ranked No. 1 and won the LPGA Championship last month. "I hope to keep winning. Next year there are another four majors and I will try and organize and keep working hard." Tseng has had a fantastic 2011 golf season, having won seven times this year alone.

At a time when her male counterparts continue to bounce from brilliance one week to disappointment the next, Tseng has dominated the landscape of golf for over 12 months. Her continued success is a breath of fresh air for many golf fans who enjoy seeing the benefits of hard work and talent in a youthful golfer. Barring any injury or personal setbacks, Tseng will undoubtedly continue her success for years to come.
